Custom Low Noise Linear Power Supply: Ordinarily Blu-ray player’s use switch mode power supplies (SMPS). The switching from these power supplies introduce noise which inevitably is introduced to the circuitry. Due to the high frequency switching of these supplies they also create RFI which in turn affects the video and audio signal.
In contrast the 203 signature utilises a top-end linear power supply with multiple regulated supplies; these regulators are specially selected for their low noise performance to delivery quiet, clean power to the circuitry. The benefit is a significant improvement in all spectrum of the players performance. For video, there is greater detail, truer colours, a more dynamic contrast, improved image stability, and better depth. Digital and analogue audio is also notably improved with better timing, increased resolution, greater depth, and improved sound-stage.
Femtosecond Reference Video Clock: All commercially available 4K Blu-ray players use standard clocks for the video processing. A “High-End” Blu-ray player may employ a low jitter clock for the audio, but the System on Chip clock (SoC) is a standard clock oscillator circuit with jitter values typically of 100-300 picoseconds. In a similar way that a low jitter clock will reduce phase noise (jitter) for the audio signal, a very low jitter clock for video processing will reduce jitter and noise in the video spectrum.
In the 203 signature we adopt a unique approach to removing jitter in the video spectrum by employing an ultra-low jitter Reference clock for the OP8591 SoC. The Reference clock has a measured jitter performance of 77 Femtoseconds (0.077 Picoseconds – RMS: 100 Hz to 100 KHz) and +/- 0.5ppm stability, amongst the lowest jitter in the industry. The net result is a more realistic looking picture quality with remarkable detail and 3D depth. There is no trace of picture noise, no artifacts, the image is natural and precise. Watching a movie is less fatiguing as the transitions are more easily interpreted by the eye.
Improved Disc Read Accuracy: We discovered during disc playback that reducing interference fields and resonances in the disc transport could improve the performance of video and audio quality. For the 4K disc loader we apply a specialist material layer coating developed to absorb electromagnetic (RFI/EMI) energy, reduce static and cancel out unwanted resonances. The result is improved disc read accuracy, with improved colours and textures for a more realistic picture quality.
Active AC Noise Reduction: In conventional audio/video equipment a traditional mains filter is used and while the better quality filters remove a degree of noise they are inadequate, often introducing negative effects. For the 203 signature we utilise two different types of unconventional solutions that remove noise and provide uninhibited current flow. The benefits are a picture quality that is more immersive and palpable. The sound has an enhanced perception of space and dimensionality, with improved coherence and naturalness.
Active EMI/RFI Noise Reduction and Damping: The operating conditions of video and audio are much improved when they can work in quiet environment. Inside any Blu-ray player the video processing generates its own noise as well as succumbing to external noise which can affect the players overall performance. To achieve the quietest electrical conditions, in the 203 signature we use materials to shield and absorb the unwanted EMI/RFI and mechanical energy to achieve constantly the best performance regardless of the surroundings.
